  6.           SwiftBBS is what has commonly been referred to as a
  7.          Bulletin Board program, though I like the term "Computer       
  8.          Based Messaging System" better.  The use and developement of   
  9.          BBS software today has gone beyond the "bulletins" of          
  10.          original BBS software.                                         
  11.                                                                         
  12.               The bulletin capabilities still exist but the current     
  13.          trend in telecommunications is more interactive and now        
  14.      involves cross-BBS message exchanges, known as echoes, at
  15.          local, national, and international levels.

  17.           SwiftBBS and related utility software allows users to
  18.      read and enter messages to each other, and can be interfaced
  19.      with other software in order to facilitate such
  20.      international "messaging".

  22.               SwiftBBS is basically a message database.  Consequently,  
  23.          it may be suitable software for any environment where leaving  
  24.          messages to others is needed.  Applications may exist for      
  25.          inter-office, intra-office, home messaging, individual, group  
  26.          or business echomail conferences, and as an information or     
  27.          help database.  In addition to the message database, the       
  28.          custom menu functions can be used as a shell.

  30.               If that's not enough, for a cost, SwiftBBS can be         
  31.          customized to meet a particular need.  Custom versions of      
  32.          SwiftBBS will still operate with the same options as the       
  33.          generic versions, but hard-coded with additional specialized   
  34.          database options.  On-line estimates, organizational project   
  35.          listings, and various accounting reports are some              
  36.          possibilities.

  38.               SwiftBBS uses and maintains QuickBBS 2.65 format control  
  39.          files, data files and menus.  A database format was decided    
  40.          upon because of it's efficiency.  Indexed database files       
  41.          allow you to find messages quicker, and take up less space     
  42.          than other .MSG files.

  44.               SwiftBBS also supports many of the key "types" of         
  45.          QuickBBS, and adds some features that make SwiftBBS easier to  
  46.          setup, simpler to maintain, and more suitable for use as a     
  47.          messaging system.  There are no file transfer capabilities in  
  48.          the current version of SwiftBBS.
